Internet Banking Security Tips


Internet Banking frauds have been rampant after Internet has become more popular for online transactions. In the recent past, Internet Banking frauds were on the rise.

The following are some of the steps you can adopt to make your internet banking secure.

  • Log on to the service by typing in the URL in the address bar. Make sure that the page opening up is from the genuine service provider.
  • Enter your user-id and password only in the space provided for in Federal Bank internet banking site login screen. If you find any changes from the normal, make sure that there is no attempt to steal your personal information.
  • Never share your passwords. Do not divulge your password to anyone. Keep it a secret.
  • While you are logging into FedNet, always check the URL address given in the address bar. URL address on the address bar of your internet browser begins with "https"; the letter 's' at the end of "https" means 'secured'.
  • Look for the padlock icon appearing at the top or bottom of the browser and click on it to see the verisign certificate issued to the site, authenticating it as the official website of Federal Bank. Alternatively click on the verisign icon to see the certificate. Follow the precautions mentioned there in, while viewing.
  • Federal Bank never sends e-mail and embedded links asking you to provide personal details such as your Account number, Debit Card number, ATM PIN or Online Banking passwords. If you receive such e-mails, never respond to them.
  • When you want to login to FedNet, Federal Bank's internet banking site, please type www.federalbank.co.in in the address bar of the browser and then click the FedNet link provided at the home page. Never make use of links provided / stored anywhere else.
  • Do not store passwords in a file on ANY computer system (including mobile or similar devices) without encryption.
  • Do not let your computer remember your password. Never accept auto complete option provided by your computer/ browser.
  • Change passwords at least once every 90 (ninety) days.
  • Do not provide user-id and passwords on any page that appears when you click on a hyperlink received through email.
  • Never access the internet banking from an un-trusted system.
  • Install the latest Antivirus software on your computer system. This will reduce the risk of virus attacks. Continuous updating of these antivirus software will offer more resistance to newer viruses.
  • Install personal firewall on your computer system. This will provide added level of security.
  • Downloads from unfamiliar sources may contain hidden programs or viruses that can compromise your computer's security.
  • Be sure the URL you are accessing has ‘https://'. The 's' indicates secured and the site uses encryption.
  • Always logout completely , using the following steps:
  • Logout the application by clicking on logout button.
  • Close all the browser windows.
